Cancer Voices Queensland – Official Launch
Cancer Voices Queensland was officially launched on July 29th 2007 at the Old Museum in Brisbane.  The morning was a culmination of the tireless work, passion and commitment of the steering committee, bringing together key representatives from the community including people affected by cancer, health professionals, cancer support groups and politicians.

The launch was an opportunity for Cancer Voices Queensland to introduce guests to the objectives of this newly developed organisation and showcase future plans.

Speakers at the launch included Leonie Young (President, Cancer Voices Queensland), Senator Claire Moore, Dr Ian Roos (Chair, Cancer Voices Victoria and Cancer Voices Australia) and Dr Suzanne Steginga (Director Community Services, The Cancer Council Queensland) all of whom took the opportunity to reinforce the importance of having an independent voice for all consumers impacted by cancer.

Senator Moore who has advocated in parliament on behalf of those affected by cancer, emphasised the value of consumer input in the health care system, welcoming the role that Cancer Voices Queensland will play. Ian Roos reinforced why advocacy is important, stating: “All Australians, regardless of location, income or age, have the right to the world’s best practice cancer care”.

Cancer Voices Queensland acknowledges that advocacy takes on many forms. The hope is that those who become members will share this message with their local communities.
